Had lunch in Mill Creek yesterday, came out and here’s this piece of shit fucking Camry with his bumper doing a number on my front license plate and bumper . He hit my car a couple of times before deciding this was “good enough”. Called the cops, they couldn’t find the owner, but in talking with the officer he told me that in Washington state if a driver hi ts another car and is unaware he did so he’s not at fault. My insurance has to cover repairs because this fucking idiot doesn’t know how to drive. I fixed the damage myself but wtf is wrong with people? And the law? Shoulda kicked his fucking mirrors off.

That is one of the most stupid laws I’ve ever heard.

I feel your outrage! I came out of a dentist appointment yesterday to discover that somebody had scraped up the corner of my bumper. No note, no nothing. The kicker was that I was parked in a single row so they could just pull through to get out so they had to have hit me on the way in and then just ignored it.

When “I’m sorry officer, I didn’t know I couldn’t do that” is a legitimate legal defense.

There’s no way that is actually the law. Negligence is not innocence.

There’s a LA Fitness, the cop went in and asked who owned the white Camry , apparently the driver was not in the facility. A bunch of stores and restaura nts in Mill Creek Town Center .. I couldn’t wait around as I had to get back to work . The cops has his plate, they know who the car belongs to. That said they won’t do anything about it.

What the fuck kind of law is that?

That’s gotta be bullshit. Call your insurance company, they can find the owner of the Camry and THEIR insurance company based on the plate, let them do the legwork to make the Camry owner’s insurance pay to fix it.

Why can’t you make a police report and sick the insurance on them?? They hit you, it’s a fact. That’s insane.

I know nothing about Washington law, but I am nearly 100% certain that that cannot be the law, and it is far more likely the officer was making shit up so he didn’t need to write a report.

Sounds like the police (or at least the officer in question) isn’t interested in doing the work to complete the report.

Called the cops, they couldn’t find the owner, but in talking with the officer he told me that in Washington state if a driver hits another car and is unaware he did so he’s not at fault.

There is so much wrong with that sentence it isn’t even funny.

“couldn’t find the owner” Does the officer not understand that the car is affixed with state-mandated metal plates with a unique number that directs law enforcement to the registered owner in a database accessible to the police?

“not at fault because he is unaware” First of all, who said the driver is unaware? He is quite likely fully aware he hit another car, but suffers from a widespread medical condition called Zero Fucks Given. But even if I’m wrong about that, being unaware of a collision doesn’t remove the responsibility. If I close my eyes and then run over an old lady crossing the street, I can claim I’m “unaware” I hit her . But I’m still pretty sure I’d be going to jail regardless.

Then I would go to the station, or the insurance will do all the legwork, they don’t like to pay and they are pretty aggressive. I had a car bump me when I was parked, before I left Hawaii, and they never responded to a note, I took pics and gave it all to the insurance. I did get a police report though and they had no problem with it.

Unless it leads to a big arrest or they get to issue a huge penalty fine to the responsible party, don’t expect the cops to do shit for you.

The lasttime my car was broken in to they had me go to a website and i never got a response. Fuck revenue collectors.

You can actually fit a timer or dedicated dashcam   battery to make it ran when parked.
